Around lunch time today box 32-03 was sent out for a reported Business/Commercial Fire.
Assistant 32 marked up and was advised caller reported a large amount of smoke from their large sawdust collection hopper. Upon arrival found the incident to be as described.
Engine 31 and made their way to the B/C corner followed by TW31 who did the same. Handline was deployed and knocked down the majority of the fire underneath the hopper with no visible extension to the structure. TW31 went in service to the top checking for extension and to get eyes on the product in the hopper.
Tankers 30, BT28 along with PT32 staged in the event additional water would be required. While all additional incoming units staged and sent manpower forward. However soon after confirming that there was no extension the incident was scaled back to 31, 32, T30 and Berks T28.
It was soon decided that it would be in everyone's best interest that we empty the hopper as it was unknown how much product had burned inside or if there were any embers still smoldering. TW31 employed a hand line from the top and began flushing the remaining product out the bottom.
With the hopper emptied and no extension elsewhere the box was placed in service. |
